Food Safety Supervisor (Levels 1 & 2) Hospitality / Tourism / Retail / Transport & Distribution
Course Description
The course is designed to meet the education requirements for employees whose duties include those of a food safety supervisor within the retail, hospitality, tourism and transport and distribution industries. This course is modular and contains sections about:
- Following hygiene procedures and identifying hygiene hazards
- Reporting personal health issues
- Preventing food and other item contamination
- Preventing cross contamination by washing hands
- Implementing procedures for food safety including principles and methods of food production;
- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) in the food production system;
- Storing food safely;
- Preparing food safely;
- Providing safe single use items;
- Maintaining a clean environment;
- Disposing of food safely.
This course includes six, end of lesson multiple choice assessments, plus students will need to demonstrate to their workplace supervisor that they can calibrate a temperature probe and operate equipment found within their workplace.

Mode of Delivery
This course is delivered online.You are able to complete the course over multiple sessions as the system 'remembers' where you are up to allowing you to resume where you left off. A workplace skills appraisal is required to be conducted as part of the assessment process. Accreditation
This course has been developed to meet the requirements of the national units of competency SITHOHS002A - Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures and SITXFSA001A - Implement Food Safety Procedures and is delivered as National Recognised Training under the Australian Quality Training Framework by the Australian Online College Pty Ltd RTO #32289.
This course meets the education requirements for food safety supervisors in the retail, hospitality, tourism and transport and distribution industries.
NOTE: This course has not yet been approved in New South Wales under the new requirements that came into force on 1st October 2010. It is however approved in all other States and Territories of Australia.
Pre-Requisite
This program does not have a pre-requisite requirement.
Entry Requirements
Students must supply a current, valid email address in order to enrol in the course and must have access to a computer with:
- Broadband internet access
- Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox Preferred)
- Email account access
- Flash 8 Player or higher
- Sound card and speakers required for listening to narration.
Students must also have access to a real or simulated workplace in order to complete the skills demonstration part of the assessment.
Career Opportunities
This course is a pre-requistite for employees whose role includes that of a Food Safety Supervisor. Examples of work environments that are required to have a Food Safety Supervisor include supermarkets, convenience stores, grocers, delicatessens, restaurants, hotels, take-away & cafes, private function caterers, market stalls, warehouses and food distribution centres.
Time to Complete
You should allow six hours of uninterrupted time to complete the online component of this course. You will need to arrange a time with your workplace supervisor to complete the practical skills.
Requirement for Recurrent Training
SITXOHS002A - Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures and SITXFSA001A - Implement Food Safety Procedures do not have recurrent training requirements.
