TLIF2010A - Apply Fatigue Management Strategies

 

Course Description

The course is designed to meet the education requirements for aviation industry employees engaged by operators who manage fatigue in accordance with a Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS). This is a modular course which includes sections relating to:

  • Definitions
  • A historical perspective on fatigue management; and
  • Education and training requirements; and
  • Fatigue and circadian rhythms; and
  • Causes of fatigue; and
  • Identification and Indicators of fatigue; and
  • Assessment of fatigue risks; and
  • Monitoring of fatigue; and
  • Consequences of fatigue; and
  • Mitigation of short term stress and conditions; and
  • Personal coping strategies; and
  • Sleep disorders; and
  • Sleep interia; and
  • Contigency plans; and
  • Self diagnosis of impairment; and
  • Why fatigue management is important; and
  • Responsibility and accountabilites; and
  • FRMS and rostering limits; and
  • Using and interpreting the FAID model; and
  • Reporting fatigue; and
  • Accident / incident investigation; and
  • FRMS System review requirements.

This course includes progressive assessment with the participant having to be aware of the correct answer to each question before being able to proceed further in the course. There is a short answer written assessment at the end of the course which must be reviewed and signed by a supervisor verifying that you understand the principles and operation of your employer's FRMS. You will also be required to complete a 7 day sleep diary.

Accreditation

This course has been developed to meet the requirements of the national unit of competency TLIF20A - Apply Fatigue Management Strategies and is delivered as National Recognised Training under the Australian Quality Training Framework.
CASA does not have a system in place to approve Fatigue Awareness courses but has accepted this course as meeting the education requirements of FRMS with a 2 year recurrent training requirement for several operators.

Entry Requirements

Students must supply a current, valid email address in order to enrol in the course and must have access to a computer with:

  • Broadband internet access
  • Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox Preferred)
  • Email account access
  • Flash 8 or higher player
  • Sound card and speakers required for listening to narration

Students must also have access to a copy of their employer's FRMS document during completion of the written assessment.

Career Opportunities

This course is a prerequistite for employees who are engaged by employers who manage fatigue in accordance with a Fatigue Risk Management System in lieu of rostering in accordance with CAO48

Time to Complete

You should allow one hour of uninterrupted time to complete the online component of this course plus a further hour to complete the short answer written assessment. A 7 day sleep diary will also need to be submitted as part of the assessment materials.

Requirement for Recurrent Training

TLIF2010A Apply Fatigue Management Strategies is valid for 24 months.
